MOTHER’S DAY MARITOZZI WITH JULIA BUSUTTIL NISHIMURA

This Mother’s Day, we’ve  teamed up with longtime friend, home cook and mother of two Julia Busuttil Nishimura on a limited-edition menu item: maritozzi from her cookbook Around The Table.  Soft brioche buns filled with cream, they’re an iconic Roman pastry traditionally enjoyed by Italians for breakfast. A nod to the Mother’s Day breakfast in bed ritual, we’ve created a playful twist on the classic.

Sweet, fluffy and pillow-y brioche buns are baked by hand at our Fitzroy Laboratorio. Julia’s maritozzi recipe is infused with lemon and orange zest, vanilla and honey. The traditional cream filling is swapped out for two scoops of gelato, panna (cream) and mochaccino (coffee and chocolate). The maritozzi is topped with cloud-like whipped cream, drizzled with mocha fudge sauce and crowned with an Amarena cherry, a joyful reference to mother’s being the matriarch of the family.

This limited-edition dessert will be served in-store only at all our stores from 2 – 16 May.

To add to the Festa della Mamma spirit, we’re also hosting an intimate maritozzi cooking class with Julia on Saturday 10 May at our Fitzroy Laboratorio.
